The Facial Hair Styles Of Winter

The Facial Hair Styles Of Winter

Recently, we were doing some meaningful research (read: aimlessly perusing the Web) and stumbled upon this awesome video parody of the Taylor Swift song "Shake It Off," with the more grooming-centered title "Shave It Off." The video points out that no-shave November ended, well, when November ended, and that maybe it's time for men to reacquaint themselves with shaving gel and a razor. Unfortunately, Michelle Glavan, the artist behind the video, is unlikely to have her request granted, since all over the country facial hair appears to be sprouting up with alarming rapidity, and it shows no signs of slowing down. So because asking for it to be shaved off is perhaps out of the question, it's time to get used to it, I guess. Therefore, we decided to review some of the different facial hair styles you'll likely be seeing this winter:

  • The Adam Levine: Levine is People Magazine's sexiest man of last year and is therefore not that relevant to this year – except, of course, for his facial hair style. Levine constantly sports the kind of carefully maintained unruliness that you're bound to see on at least one person in your office this winter. While Levine told Men's Fitness that the key to a facial hair style like his is pretty much to let it grow and give it only the occasional trim, that's clearly not the case. His facial hair is just too groomed. Expect to see it on your colleagues who want to try really hard to look effortless.
  • The David Beckham: Granted, having facial hair like David Beckham isn't going to make you look like David Beckham, but it'll get you one step closer, which is all mere mortals can hope for. Beckham's typical scruff style is more closely clipped than Levine's. Basically we imagine him getting a beard trimmer, putting it to the lowest setting, and doing a once-over every day. You're likely to see this kind of style on co-workers who are no-hassle type guys who still like to look presentable.
  • The Idris Elba: Elba pretty much always sports facial hair, so he knows what looks good on him. Which, to be fair, is pretty much any beard style. But the one he most often goes with is the mustache/chin action that you can see here. You will witness this beard style on your colleagues who are trying, and failing, to be Idris Elba.
  • The George Lucas: Some men wear beards to enhance their look, while others use them to disguise facial elements that might be lacking. For all his directorial powers, for instance, George Lucas has not been able to exert the power to have a visible jawline. But that's a problem he's worked around with a beard style that creates the appearance of a jaw, even if, beneath it, one can guess that there's not much there. You'll spot this beard style on employees still looking to retain the chiseled jaws of their youth – aka your boss.
  • The … Who Exactly Is That? This year, we can practically guarantee you that at least one dude in your office will grow a beard so massive and unruly that he literally disappears behind it. This is the ultimate mountain man look, and it's one beard style that's truly timeless, mainly because it requires almost zero maintenance. It's the rare person who can successfully pull this off, and the person who's able to do it in your office is deserving of at least a little bit of praise at the water cooler.
